Overnight sightseeing or an overnight trek?

The two-day Colca Canyon tour with one night in Colca is a vehicle-based sightseeing itinerary. A private room is included; that means your sleeping arrangement, not a private tour vehicle. The listing describes a small group of up to 15 participants.

The two-day rhythm

Day one starts with collection or the agreed central meeting point around 7:30–8 AM. The drive towards Chivay includes the reserve landscapes, Patahuasi, wetlands and a volcano viewpoint. This is a later start than the standard full-day tour, but it is still a substantial road journey.

After arrival in Chivay, buy lunch, check into the accommodation and decide whether to join the optional thermal-bath visit. The itinerary offers a possible dinner with a folklore performance, paid separately. You can use the evening to rest rather than treating every optional activity as compulsory.

On day two, breakfast precedes the excursion towards Cruz del Cóndor. The provider allocates about 45 minutes at the viewpoint, with village and terrace stops during the return. After lunch in Chivay, the advertised arrival back in Arequipa is around 5 PM near the main square. These times are planning estimates, not guaranteed connections.

Included room, separate meals

The advertised package includes a private room in tourist accommodation, continental breakfast on the second morning, guiding, tourist transport and sightseeing stops. It excludes the tourist ticket, optional hot springs, lunches and dinner. Ask for the hotel name and room configuration before booking if stairs, heating or bed type are important to you.

A room in Chivay also differs considerably from a lodge at Sangalle: you remain in the valley town instead of carrying your overnight kit down into the canyon. Do not book the two-day trek expecting the same walking demand or accommodation.

Who should choose another itinerary?

Choose a day tour when only one full day is available and you accept the early start. If you are travelling east afterwards, compare the Arequipa-to-Puno itinerary before reserving a round trip. Returning to Arequipa first may add unnecessary travel to that route.

Two days give the sightseeing schedule more space, but they do not remove the high passes or guarantee comfortable acclimatisation for everyone. Check the provider’s suitability restrictions, share mobility requirements in advance, and keep the evening after your return free of critical bookings.
