A rainy-season Colca trek needs a current, route-specific assessment. A tour being listed for sale is not enough. Ask the operator about the trail, access and cancellation arrangements, and choose sightseeing if conditions or your own confidence do not support a steep descent and climb back to the rim.

Two-day canyon trek · Tangol. Review your date, participants and selected inclusions before payment.
The useful question is whether the planned route is appropriate on your departure dates. Peru Travel identifies November–March as the broad rainy Andean period. That makes wet-season planning important, but it cannot tell you whether a particular descent, bridge or return path is usable today.
Ask who makes the departure decision and when you will hear it. Request the route’s start and finish, the overnight location and an explanation of any proposed change. If the answer is simply that tours run all year, ask again about the actual trail. A calendar describes a reservation opportunity, not an inspection.
Question for the operator
Why the answer matters
Has this route been assessed recently?
Conditions can change after a previous group
What would cause postponement?
Sets expectations before payment
Is there an alternative route or activity?
Shows whether the replacement meets your purpose
What happens to my onward transfer?
Avoids assuming a missed connection is covered
What equipment must I bring?
Separates supplied equipment from your responsibilities
Understand the commitment below the rim
The two-day Colca Canyon trekking tour uses a canyon-floor overnight and an uphill exit. That means you must plan for the whole journey, not just whether the initial downhill walk looks manageable. Compare the two-day trek with the three-day trek for pacing, while remembering that an extra night does not remove the ascent.
Ask how the group handles different walking speeds, where you can stop and what assistance is realistically available. Do not assume you can summon a vehicle from any point on a walking trail. Discuss concerns before paying, especially if your experience is mainly on short, level walks.
Pack to stay functional if conditions change
Use familiar footwear with reliable grip rather than new boots worn for the first time. Keep your spare layer, phone and essential documents protected inside a waterproof bag liner. Bring a head torch for the itinerary’s early starts and enough battery capacity for your own needs. Ask about water arrangements, meals and the night’s facilities; these are booking-option details, not automatic features of every trek.
Choose equipment for walking comfortably and keeping essentials usable, rather than treating a rain jacket as permission to proceed regardless of conditions. If the guide changes the route or recommends cancelling, a paid reservation is not a reason to continue.
Have a realistic alternative ready
A Colca sightseeing visit lets you see the valley without descending, provided roads and stops remain accessible. It is a separate excursion with its own terms; establish any switch before your trek begins. If road access is also uncertain, retain a day in Arequipa rather than replacing one uncertain canyon plan with another.
Check SENAMHI warnings and contact the operator near departure. Travellers visiting in January or February should also consider how much flexibility remains before their next fixed booking.

A guide can assess conditions and organise the route, but cannot remove weather or terrain hazards. Be prepared to postpone or choose another activity.
Extra time may spread the walking, but does not prove that the route is suitable. Ask about the actual trail and conditions.
Book a sightseeing format with appropriate flexibility, after checking road access. Do not rely on changing a trekking booking after departure.
