The quick answer

Sangalle is a canyon-floor overnight stop reached on foot, so choose this trip for the hiking as well as the oasis. The main planning question is whether you can comfortably complete the uphill exit. Confirm the exact route, room, meals and pool access attached to your trek option before booking.

What you are booking

The appeal of Sangalle is an overnight pause within the canyon, with the slopes rising around you. Getting there is part of the experience, and so is leaving. Choose the itinerary because you want to walk through the canyon, rather than viewing the pool as a resort stay with transport to the door.

The two-day Colca Canyon trekking tour describes a route through San Juan de Chuccho, Cosñirhua and Malata to Sangalle, followed by an ascent to Cabanaconde. That is one listed itinerary, not a universal route for every product carrying “Sangalle” in its name. Ask for the actual walking stages before comparing packages.

The ascent deserves as much attention as the oasis

A downhill first day can conceal how demanding the return will feel. Read the trek difficulty guide and ask the operator about the ascent, start time, group pace and available assistance. Do not rely on an assumed vehicle exit from the canyon floor.

If you want more time, compare a three-day trek with the two-day option. Check the stage-by-stage itinerary: simply adding a night does not establish that the hardest climb is shorter. Choose a route you can complete comfortably enough to enjoy the scenery along the way.

Confirm the overnight details

The featured listing offers different inclusions, so get the lodge and room arrangement in writing. Ask whether you have a private or shared room, what bathroom facilities are provided, which meals are covered and whether drinking water is included or bought separately. Pool access should be confirmed for the booked accommodation rather than inferred from a photograph.

Bring only the luggage needed for the walking portion. Ask where your main bag stays, whether storage costs extra and how you recover it if continuing to Puno. Carry essentials and documents with you; do not base the plan on leaving something behind that you will need before reaching the rim again.

Choose the conditions as carefully as the package

For rainy-season dates, consult the route-condition checklist and ask the operator about the trail shortly before departure. The overnight reservation does not establish that every stage is suitable in poor weather. Keep enough flexibility to accept a route change or cancellation when required.

If the uphill exit or basic accommodation does not appeal, choose Colca without trekking. You can still explore the valley and viewpoints without committing to a canyon-floor night. The distinction is especially important for groups whose members have very different walking experience.
