Choose your base around the route you book.
Stay in Arequipa before a day trip, Chivay for convenient valley sightseeing and connections, Yanque when the hotel itself is part of the stay, or Cabanaconde for canyon hiking. Choose the route before the room: an attractive hotel in the wrong town can add an inconvenient transfer to an already early morning.

Sample rates checked 26 October 2026 for 17–18 November 2026: one room, two adults, USD, breakfast included. Availability and cancellation terms vary. Additional 18% tax may apply depending on residency and travel documents; check your final total.
We have not stayed at these hotels. These are separate room bookings, not promises that a particular tour includes this property.
These picks serve different journeys. Katari Hotel at Plaza de Armas is an Arequipa departure base. Casa Andina Standard Colca places you in Chivay. La Posada Del Conde suits a Cabanaconde plan. Check room type, dates and cancellation terms rather than assuming all rates include the same benefits.
| Base | Best reason to choose it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Arequipa | Sleep before and after a round-trip day tour | Central pickup eligibility and an early checkout |
| Chivay | Overnight sightseeing or an onward Puno connection | Whether your tour already includes a room |
| Yanque | A quieter valley stay centred on a particular hotel | Transfer to your tour or bus meeting point |
| Cabanaconde | Start or finish a canyon-floor trek | Luggage storage and return transport |
| Sangalle | Overnight inside the canyon on a hiking itinerary | Physical access and the lodge assigned by your trek |
A central Arequipa hotel lets you keep the same base and take a Colca day tour with a small daypack. The featured operator lists Katari among its pickup choices, but reconfirm your exact booking and time. Do not assume that a hotel elsewhere in the city is covered simply because a listing says “hotel pickup”.
Before booking a non-refundable room, compare the one-day and two-day formats. A day tour can return late if roads or sightseeing stops run behind schedule. Keeping the return night in Arequipa is more forgiving than planning an immediate onward connection. Ask your accommodation about a packed breakfast if your rate includes a meal you will leave too early to eat.
Chivay works well when the itinerary stops in the valley overnight or changes to an onward Puno vehicle. Room inclusion varies: the checked two-day sightseeing tour includes a private room, while the recommended Arequipa-to-Puno route excludes accommodation. Avoid paying twice by checking the exact option first.
Casa Andina Standard Colca is a named hotel choice for an independently arranged night. It is not a promise that a tour operator uses that hotel. If your tour collects you in Chivay on the second morning, send the hotel name and address to the operator before arrival. Confirm heating and hot-water arrangements for your room; a valley night can feel much colder than a sunny afternoon.
Yanque appeals when you want more time in the valley and prefer a stay outside Chivay. The important question is not whether the hotel is “near Colca”, but whether your tour will collect you there. Ask for the meeting place, additional charge if any, and the latest time you must leave the hotel to join a Chivay departure.
If thermal baths are the main attraction, distinguish a hotel’s own facilities from the public hot-springs visit named in your sightseeing itinerary. A bath stop does not include a hotel room, and a room booking does not automatically include every local attraction.
Cabanaconde is useful before or after the Sangalle trek. La Posada Del Conde lists private bathrooms and a restaurant; confirm luggage storage directly if you will be away overnight. Store unnecessary bags in an agreed location rather than carrying your whole Peru itinerary down the canyon.
Sangalle is inside the canyon. Do not book it as if it were a roadside substitute for a Chivay hotel. Reaching it and climbing out form part of the hiking commitment. Read trek difficulty and check whether your guided package assigns accommodation before booking a second lodge yourself.
Match your arrival town, tour pickup and onward transport first. Then check the room’s total price, taxes, meal plan and cancellation deadline. A tour cancellation does not automatically cancel a separately booked hotel. Tell the property about an early departure or late arrival, and keep both booking confirmations offline.
Hotel identity, amenities and photographs were checked against the linked Booking.com listings on 26 October 2026. We have not stayed at these properties; no room price is quoted without a matching dated availability check.
These Booking.com examples were checked on 26 October 2026 for one night, 17–18 November 2026, two adults sharing one room. All three included breakfast. They are examples for those dates, not year-round starting prices.
| Property and room | Sample USD rate | Cancellation condition shown |
|---|---|---|
| Katari, Deluxe Twin | $152 | Non-refundable |
| Casa Andina Standard Colca, Twin | $152 | Free cancellation before 10 November |
| La Posada Del Conde, Double or Twin | $30 | Free cancellation before 15 November; no prepayment |
The listings also describe a conditional 18% tax depending on residency and passport or immigration documentation. Although the room rows display included taxes, do not assume an exemption applies to your booking: verify the final total and required documents with the property. Cancellation deadlines can include a local cutoff time; read your selected room’s conditions before paying.
Everything you need to know before you book.
It depends on the product and option. Some sightseeing trips include a room in Chivay; the checked Arequipa-to-Puno route excludes accommodation. Read the inclusions before booking a separate room.
Cabanaconde is the practical base for the classic canyon descent and ascent. Chivay is more convenient for many sightseeing and Puno transfer arrangements. Choose around the actual start and finish of your route.
No. Arequipa and the valley are different pickup areas, several hours apart. Ask for a confirmed meeting arrangement before booking a tour that starts in another town.
Only after checking your trek option. Guided treks may include an assigned lodge, while basic options or independent hikes require separate arrangements.
Ask where you must join the vehicle. A transfer described as starting in Chivay may not collect from a Yanque hotel without an additional arrangement.
No. The hotel cards are independent accommodation suggestions. Booking a room does not reserve a tour or guarantee pickup.
